ABK – THE BLACK LAGER

Hidden away at the bottom of the Alps in Kaufbeuren hides a medieval Bavarian farming village bursting with history, the vast majority of which has been dedicated to the brewing of beer. A brewery owned and operated by the people of this small village means passion and care oozes into the brewing creating some of the best beers in the world.

When we curated our Winter Wunderbar we were introduced to ABK Schwarz, slightly different to a Dunkel, but everything we needed; a crisp but moorish lager with hints of dark chocolate and liquorice. All the warmth you’d need for a Mancunian winter.

With everything from rose, to Wiess to black bier, we knew this wouldn’t be the last we heard from ABK. The same day we discovered Schwarz we also stumbled across ABK Hells; a light and bright bier with a label as bold as it’s taste – a full-bodied grain with lots of green apple and light but persistent hints of pine and a light bitterness that persists to the finish. Don’t be surprised to see this number on our upcoming summer menu!
